Drill string stabilizers vary in shape and size depending on the application and functional requirements. Generally, drill string stabilizers can be divided into two main categories:

1. Gear-type drill string stabilizers. These typically consist of a series of gears and bearings, effectively reducing lateral friction between the drill bit and the wellbore, thereby reducing drill bit wear and instability in drilling speed.

2. Sliding-type drill string stabilizers. These usually consist of a device similar to a sliding sleeve, further reducing lateral friction between the drill bit and the formation, thus smoothing the drilling process.
