As a key non-magnetic component installed in the upper section of the drill string for directional drilling, MWD/LWD (Logging While Drilling), and complex well operations, upper non-magnetic drill pipes are designed to bridge the upper conventional drill string and lower bottom hole assembly (BHA), addressing the need for non-magnetic interference and stable power transmission in the upper-middle wellbore. These tools perform several integrated functions essential to drilling operations:
As a non-magnetic member of the upper drill string for directional drilling, MWD/LWD (Logging While Drilling) and complex wells, upper non-gutals are designed to connect the upper regular drill string and lower bottom hole assembly (BHA) to ensure non-agnetic interference and stable power transfer in the upper-middle wellbore. Such components should: maintain continuous non-netic region in the high drill string in order to remove magnetic interference of the top regular drill pipes, casing or surface (e.g. measure downhole MWD and LWD sensors (In the lower BHA) and collect well trajectory, formation parameters and drilling status information); transmit drilling torque, axial load, drilling fluid from the surface drilling rig to the lower regular drill strings (drill collars, stabilizers, drill bits), maintain drill string integrity and efficient power transfer for the upper wellbores (temperature and pressure are moderate but perform consistently) as a link between upper regular drilling and lower non-mutals (ease of assembly with suitable thread designs) as tight and secure to prevent tight and safe assembly, avoiding loosening or leakage due to downhole vibration and fluid flow; maintain harsh wellboras in the bottom upper-east section (corrosion from formation fluid, abrasion from wellbour walls, and cycles), using high-strength non-gm alloys and precision machining to provide long service life and resistance to fatigue failures; adapt to deviated or horizontal well sections in the top-middle such as for the drill string to minimize drag and torque loss during drilling.

The products are manufactured in full compliance with API 7-1 and ISO 9001 standards. With our complete testing equipment, we can provide product certification and supporting test data.

Upper non-magnetic drill pipes are commonly utilized in drilling operations where magnetic shielding within the upper drill string and reliable power transmission are indispensable. Their application carries particular significance in the following scenarios:

For directional and horizontal wells, these pipes are usually positioned along the upper to middle segments of the drill string. This placement shields downhole MWD/LWD tools from magnetic interference generated by surface machinery and conventional steel pipes, enabling accurate data acquisition and controlled navigation to the target reservoir.
In extended-reach drilling (ERD), they bolster string stability across long upper lateral sections, mitigating frictional drag and torque dissipation while sustaining a non-magnetic environment for downhole sensors.
During the drilling of deep or ultra-deep wells, they perform reliably under moderately elevated temperatures (≤220°C) and pressures in the upper wellbore. Their consistent power transmission and magnetic insulation preclude interference with measurement tools situated further down the string.

On offshore platforms, these pipes exhibit resistance to seawater corrosion and other harsh marine conditions. By establishing a non-magnetic segment in the upper drill string, they block magnetic noise from the platform's steel superstructure, thus preserving the precision of downhole measurements.
In deepwater areas with shallow, unconsolidated formations, they furnish essential stabilization to the upper drill string. This prevents wellbore collapse and maintains the non-magnetic integrity required for uninterrupted MWD/LWD tool operation.

Mineral exploration drilling: Installed in the upper section of exploration drill strings to avoid magnetic interference from surface magnetic anomalies, ensuring accurate collection of subsurface geological and mineral data.
Geothermal well drilling: Withstand moderate high temperatures (≤220°C) in the upper geothermal reservoir, transmitting drilling fluid and power stably while protecting temperature/pressure sensors from magnetic interference.

Coalbed methane (CBM) directional wells: Used in the upper section of coal mine drill strings to isolate magnetic interference from mine surface equipment, ensuring accurate positioning of lower gas drainage boreholes and reliable gas content measurement.

Since 2009, SHANXI ZHONGHE has specialized in the development and production of non-magnetic drilling tools. We maintain complete control over the entire manufacturing process, which includes the smelting, forging, and machining of non-magnetic materials. With strict quality control implemented at every stage, each individual product undergoes thorough inspection throughout the production process. We strictly adhere to the American Petroleum Institute (API) standards and primarily utilize materials graded P530, P550, and P650 in our manufacturing processes.
